CLIFFORD ENDS HIS GOAL DROUGHT

CLIFFORD ENDS HIS GOAL DROUGHT

Having netted 11 goals last season to finish as Forest Rangers top scorer, many have been longing to see veteran Clifford Mulenga continue where he had left off.

But Mulenga had to wait for Week Eight to open his account for the current season.

Last Saturday Mulenga scored what could have been a match winner against Nkana but his effort was cancelled in the dying minutes by Zimbabwean Thabani Kamusoko as the home side forced a draw.

Mulenga benefited from a Quadri Kola assist to put Fole Malembe in the lead at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe.

Coach Ian Bakala picked the former international from the start and he justified his inclusion in his team with a clinical finish.

Following his exploits which also saw him named club player-of-the-year last season, the Fole Malembe faithful’s have been yearning to see him bang in goals even this season.

The 2007 African Young player-of-the-year has reinvigorated his career since joining Forest in 2020.

Mulenga has scored a total of 13 goals in the Super League in Forest colours under three different coaches.

He joined Forest under Tenant Chilumba but after his departure, Mulenga has managed to impress his successors in Tenant Chembo and Bakala all who have retained faith in him.

The former Chipolopolo attacker netted once in his debut season with the Ndola side but shocked many when he hit double digits last season to win the golden boot accolade at the club.

With Mulenga ending his drought, Bakala will hope to see the veteran midfielder regularly finding the back of the target as the season continues to unfold.

Mulenga became the fourth Forest player to score this season.

New recruit striker Moyela Libamba has scored two goals while defenders Chitoshi Chinga, Gerald Simusokwe and Mulenga have managed one apiece
