FOREST HOLD EAGLES TO A BARREN DRAW IN CHOMA

FOREST HOLD EAGLES TO A BARREN DRAW IN CHOMA

The last time Forest Rangers drove back from Choma to Ndola with three points was in 2017, and their search for maximum points at Independence Stadium Choma will have to continue next season after a latest goalless draw.

Forest and Green Eagles last Saturday battled to a barren stalemate in Southern Province.

“We know we wanted three points but a point is what God has given us and it still keeps us in our fight for the second slot.

“We knew traveling to Choma will be difficult and so we prepared adequately to ensure if we didn’t score, our opponents shouldn’t either,” assistant coach Kennedy Kashobondo said in the aftermath of the barren draw.

The game provided very few chances for the visiting side in both halves, but it was the home team that were the unluckiest, having come very close on half hour mark through Bornface Sunzu, who’s shot hit the inside of the post before rolling out.

Another good opportunity for Eagles came in the 65th minute when Daniel Mutshinemu went down after trying to clear the ball from a corner, only for Aaron Musore to shoot the ball wide.

In the 73rd minute, Mutshinemu made a great save from what looked like a dead ball but he left nothing to chance and parried it away.

In all this, thumbs up would go to the Forest defence who contained the pressure and got a point away in Choma.

With three games left to play every point counts and Forest will be hoping the two teams above them, Green Buffaloes and Napsa Stars drop points in their coming games and they win their last three matches to keep their continental aspirations alive.

Forest’ next three matches will be against newly crowned champions Power Dynamos at home, Napsa Stars away in Lusaka and the closing day derby against town rivals Zesco United.

Malembe are currently fourth on the log with 47 points.
