MALEMBE END PRISON’S WINLESS STREAK

MALEMBE END PRISON’S WINLESS STREAK

Forest Rangers suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of a struggling Prison Leopards yesterday at Railway Stadium,
After coming off a victory against Napsa Stars at Dola Hill on Saturday.

Coming into this game Leopards had not won a single match in seven games but they managed to find the back of the net early, via penalty which was awarded by Referee Tryson Mwape after Chitoshi Chinga’s extended leg in the box. David Obashi made no mistake in converting it to put the home side in the lead ten minutes into the game.

But Malembe did not stop pushing for an equalizer, at 20 minutes the best chance came off a cross from Apanane to Moro Amenu who’s header couldn’t get past Langston Chisi.

Another good run was made by Amenu from Obed Masumboko pass but the striker was caught offside just before he could start charging at Chisi.

By the half time break, the away side was still trailing by a goal to nil.

5 minutes into the second half, Forest Rangers quickly switched into gear to try and level matters but Lazarous Chishimba was just a seconds late from getting the equalizer.

A few minutes later, on 56 minutes, Prison Leopards extended their lead through a header slotted in by Mike Mambepa from a corner taken by Laudu Miete.

Forest were forced to make changes immediately and a double Substitute was made, Eric Chomba and Moyela Libamba came on for Obed Masumbuko and Tiki Chiluba respectively.

The two goals gave Prison Leopards the match needed confidence as they tried to make it three but Daniel Mutshinemu made an incredible save to stop the Collins Mulenga coached side from further extending their lead.

After continuously knocking at Langston Chisi’s door, Moro Amenu in the dying minutes of the game, finally got his answer and his first goal of the season on 84 minutes but it wasn’t enough for the Ndola based side to salvage any point.

This marks Forest’s 3rd loss on the road and speaking in a post match interview, Interim Head Coach Kennedy Kashobondo said the early penalty disrupted the team’s game plan.

“It is a very disappointing result because we planned for three points so we can move up the table. But the early decision by the referee, to award the penalty disrupted the momentum of the players because they started out very well and they looked promising.” said coach Kashobondo.

Forest will have to quickly regroup and focus on their next home game on Saturday at Dola Hill Stadium against an inform Nkwazi side who have picked three victory on a trot.
