09 Oct A DISAPPOINTING CHOMA EXPERIENCE!
A trip to Choma is one that brings concerns to every Fole Malembe supporter, this is due to the fact that Forest Rangers has not won a single game in Choma since 2017, and yesterday’s Week 7 encounter was no different.
Forest will have to try again next season to bring down the walls of Independence Stadium, after a 2-1 defeat to Green Eagles on Sunday.
The match started off on a dramatic note with three match officials arriving ten minutes past the official kick off time due to what was termed as ‘circumstances beyond their control’ .
Interim head coach Kennedy Kashobondo was very displeased with the manner in which the officials handled the match.
“It was very unprofessional for the officials to arrive late. They didn’t even have time to warm up and I think that’s what led to some of the wrong calls the referee made.”
“An example of one of the calls was the second goal Green Eagles scored, everyone knows the GoalKeeper is supposed to be protected but Daniel Mutshinemu was injured but no whistle was blown and the goal stood. The injury was bad and we ended up substituting him ,” Kashobondo said.
Forest dominated play in the first fews minutes of the game which led to Jack Chirwa’s maiden goal fifteen minutes into the match.
But on 26 minutes Freddy Michael leveled matters for the home side.
A few minutes after the half hour mark, a shot by Michael was saved by Mutshinemu before it was kicked away from him, injuring the goalKeeper in the process but center referee Hillary Hambaba paid no attention to the fracas that took place in the box, awarding Eagles with the second goal.
The two teams went into the break with Eagles leading 2-1.
The second half saw Forest making two substitutes, Allan Chibwe came on for Daniel Mutshinemu (forced Substitute) and Felix Banda came on for Joe W Banda .
Three minutes into the second half, a cross from Dieugo Apanane was well controlled by Moro Amenu, who teed it for Lazarous Chishimba but his shot lacked power to get past Rodwell Mulungushi.
At 68 minutes Eric Chomba was substituted for Obed Masumboko, whose first touch of the game was a brilliant shot that went slightly over the bar.
Green Eagles saw little goal action after the substitution of Freddy Michael until the 83rd minute, A Silwimba cross was well checked by Chitoshi Chinga before getting to the box.
Another unpleasant call for Malembe, was a freekick awarded to Green Eagles right outside the box. With tempers over the roof, the Forest players and technical bench had alot to say regarding it but it stood.
Hosea Silwimba took the resultant free kick but it went straight at Allan Chibwe making it his last save of the game.
The loss sees Malembe dropping to 11th on the log with eight points after two victories, two draws and two losses from the six games played.
Forest will remain camped in Choma as they wait to play their rescheduled Week Six game against FC MUZA in Mazabuka on Saturday.
