27 Nov A HALT ON POWER’S 3 GAME WINNING STREAK
On Saturday 26th November,2022, Forest Rangers held Power Dynamos to a stalemate at Arthur Davies Stadium in Week 15 of the MTN Super League.
After coming from their first home loss last week against Green Eagles, Malembe were determined to stay on track as the race to finish in the top 6 bracket to qualify for the ABSA Cup continues.
In a thrilling match which had each team going pound for pound, it was the home side’s Joshua Mutale who issued the first threat, in the 2nd minute through a freekick which went slightly over the bar.
A few minutes after that, Makonga wiped in a cross but there was no one on the other end to finish it. Power tried to catch Forest on a counter but striker Brian Mwila missed a golden opportunity to put the home side in the lead after missing a one-on-one with Allan Chibwe.
Mwila was presented with another opportunity but Chitoshi Chinga who was playing in defense, easily blocked him.
Forest’s leading top striker Moyela , decided to take matters into his hands in the 27th minute, as he took a ball from near the center line, all the way into the box but his shot was caught by Lawrence Mulenga, it bounced off but Eric Chomba was too far to finish the rebound.
With 5 minutes before the break,it was Allan Chibwe’s Double save against the current top scorer of the league, Kennedy Musonda which ensured Forest ended the first half without conceding.
10 minutes into the second half, it was Forest’s Quadri Kola who missed a golden opportunity to tap in the ball at the near post to give, Forest the lead.
Chideu came on in the 73rd minute and 15 minutes later he was presented with an opportunity which everyone thought he should have buried but his short went slightly wide.
The second half didn’t present Power Dynamos with so many opportunities except in the last minute of the game, when they had two good corners but they still couldn’t get past Allan Chibwe and his defense.
During the post-match interview, 1st Assistant Coach Kennedy Kashobondo said he was disappointed that the team didn’t take their chances.
“It’s very disappointing because in the first half we had a number of chances and we could have buried the game and reduced the number of points between us and the leaders Power Dynamos, but that’s football, we will settle for a point and plan for the next game.”
Forest Rangers will face NAPSA Stars in their next fixture at Trade Fair Grounds as they hope to collect maximum points and increase their chances of qualifying for the ABSA Cup , being absentees in the last two seasons.
This point sees Forest dropping from 4th to 6th with 25 points, equally with Prison Leopards, Green Buffaloes and FC MUZA separated only by goal difference
