10 Dec FOLE AND ZEGA SHARE SPOILS IN THE NDOLA DERBY
Forest Rangers maintained their unbeaten run under coach Mwenya Chipepo after battling to a 1- all draw with Zesco United in a Ndola Derby at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
This result saw Forest dropping from 10th to 11th position with Zesco consolidating their five-point lead at the summit.
Forest have 19 points while Zesco have amassed 29 points.
The derby kicked off with the home side pinning Fole Malembe in the early minutes of the game, before the visitors were awarded a freekick outside the box after Moyela Libamba was fouled.
Three players stood over the ball, Libamba, Dieugo Apanane and Benson Kolala, after a brief chat amongst themselves, the two skipped the ball, leaving Kolala to excellently curl in with his left past the overstretched Ian Otieno to put Forest in the lead in the 28th minute of the game.
The best chance for Zesco came four minutes into the second half after Abraham Siankombo unleashed a powerful shot that was saved by Daniel Mutshinemu and the rebound from Kelvin Kampamba was cleared on the line by defender Chitoshi Chinga.
Midfielder Lazarous Chishimba had a perfect opportunity to double the lead on 59 minutes but ballooned his effort after an interchange of passes between Libamba and Amenu Moro in the build-up.
Against the run of play ,Zesco caught Forest on a counter for Lazarous Kambole to restore parity on 73 minutes.
In the end the two teams shared the spoils in this Super League Week 15 affair, with Forest feeling hard done-by the result knowing they now face a daunting task to qualify for the ABSA Cup.
Chipepo in a post-match interview expressed delight that the team got a point against the leaders.
“We are very disappointed and happy at the same time, because getting a draw from a team on top of the log is not easy and we were just careless because if you look at the chances we missed today we could have beaten Zesco.” said Chipepo, who was appointed three matches ago.
Forest’ next game is against Green Buffaloes billed for Dola Hill Stadium as they try to salvage some points to get them closer to the top Six .
