30 May FOLE PLAYERS DOMINATE ABSA AWARDS
Forest Rangers last Saturday bagged their first ever ABSA Cup title after beating MUZA 2-0 to pocket K700,000. But it was not only the club that came back all smiles from Woodlands Stadium but also three players did.
Fole Malembe players dominated the individual awards during the medal presentation ceremony held on the pitch in the aftermath of the final.
The ceremony was graced by Republican President Hakainde Hichilema who was the guest of honour.
Enterprising Cephas Mulombwa walked away with the top scorer accolade for the two goals he scored in the tournament. Mulombwa was on target against Green Buffaloes and Power Dynamos in the quarter-finals and Semi-finals respectively.
Forest edged Buffaloes 1-0 in the last eight and came from behind to beat Power 2-1 in the semis.
Mulombwa received K25,000 for the achievement.
The winger had a wonderful tournament and was adding the top scorer accolade to the man-of-the-match he received earlier in the semi-finals. Mulombwa has received a total of K40,000 from Absa Bank for the two awards.
Goalkeeper Daniel Mutshinemu was named goalkeeper of the tournament and got K25,000 after keeping two clean sheets in the tournament. Mutshinemu came in as a substitute in the dying minutes of the semi-finals against Power Dynamos to make a crucial save and he kept another cleansheet in the finals against FC MUZA making atleast four crucial saves to keep Malembe in the game.
Striker Amenu Moro was also not left out as he pocketed K15,000 for emerging as man-of-the-match in the final. The Ghanaian was a thorn in the flesh for the MUZA defenders and was unlucky not to be on the score sheet. Moro saw his goal overturned by the video assistant referee decision in the second half.
Meanwhile, Trident’ Beby Onka was named the tournament best player and got K25,000.
MUZA walked away with K350,000 for finishing as runners-up.
