10 Apr FOREST CAPTAIN EYES ABSA CUP TITLE
Skipper Cedric Djeugoue says Forest Rangers are targeting winning the ABSA Cup after eliminating Power Dynamos from the competition.
Last Saturday Forest came from behind to beat Power 2-1 at Arthur Davies Stadium to storm the finals.
‘Fole Malembe’ will lock horns with MUZA in the final billed for May 13 at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.
MUZA overcame National Division One outfit Trident 1-0 in the second semi-final on Sunday.
Cameroonian Djeugoue said after Forest made history by reaching their maiden ABSA Cup final that the team will play for nothing other than victory against MUZA.
“In life we learn through mistakes and this is the time where all the players, coaches and executive we will work on it.We thank God that we have reached the final this time around and we just hope that we are going to carry the Cup to make history for our team and this is what I said at the beginning of the season. I want to win something with Forest. I think this is the right time for me to do it,” he said.
Despite qualifying to play in the ABSA Cup for the second time, this is the first time Fole are reaching the finals.
Forest were eliminated in the quarter-finals in 2021 after losing to Konkola Blades 1-0.
The only title the Dola Hill Ground based side can boost of is the 2005 Coca Cola Cup.
And Djeugoue thinks reaching the final of the ABSA Cup has given Forest motivation to do better in the remaining six games and qualify to play continental football.
“It is good motivation for us in the remaining six games and all of us know what we are going to be facing in those games and we just need to be focused and work hard for us to maintain our position so that we can fight to finish first or play continental next season,” he said.
Forest are perched fourth with 43 points, two behind the continental slots
