02 Feb FOREST ON THE RISE
Forest Rangers started life in a new jersey with bang after beating Zanaco 1-0 to reduce the gap with Super League Leaders Power Dynamos to two points.
It also was a memorable day for midfielder Lazarous Chishimba as he opened his Forest account after netting the solitary goal.
But wait a minute, it is not just Chishimba who will live to remember this day as Forest will also not forget this memorable win in a new jersey.
There was a lot of excitement around the club before the game after the magnificent looking new Umbro kit was unveiled on Thursday.
Fans could not wait to see the Cedric Djeugoue captained side clad in the elegant new Umbro jersey and their time finally came on Sunday when Forest hosted Zanaco at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
Going by how Forest started the match, the new kit seems to have lifted the morale of the team as they approached the game with real intent and almost took the lead on 20 minutes but Dieugo Apanane saw his cracker hit the crossbar.
The smartly dressed Forest side continued piling pressure and their efforts finally paid off when Chishimba planted the ball into the bottom left corner of the net on the half hour mark past Zanaco goalkeeper Charles Lawu.
Chishimba benefited from Ghanaian Amenu Moro’ good work, who robbed defender Christopher Mhango before squaring the ball to the former Indeni midfielder who took a touch before finding the back of the net.
Chishimba, who joined Forest before the start of the season from Indeni relished his maiden goal by pointing to his wrist probably suggesting God’s time is the best.
After taking the lead, the men in yellow created some chances but could not stretch their lead while on the other hand Zanaco failed to beat goalkeeper Allan Chibwe for the home side to triumph.
When referee Michael Lialabi blew the final whistle, it was time for Forest to celebrate both the three points and the arrival of the new kit.
Malembe are now second on the Super League table with 37 points while Power have 39 points.
